Day 8 - Munich to Scharding - Tues 13 May

Day 8 - Munich to Scharding - Tues 13 May
Woke to grey skies and occasional raindrops, a week since we left home. Trains started at 6am, the angelus at 6.30am. Driving back towards Austria today whilst we try to find wifi and status of our missing box - email from Australia says they have requested customs inspection to ensure no dangerous goods (thus hastening release), but website says box was released to shipper on Friday?? Anxiety levels rising, communications certainly an issue whilst travelling...  Good motorways, amazingly lush and green. Drizzle alternating with blue skies. Stopped for delicious fish and pickled salad lunch. Farms, industrial centres and residential areas impressively organised, clean and tidy, no rusting machinery anywhere, no litter, no obvious rubbish tips! Impressed by the six coloured choices of recycling bins. Flower gardens, window boxes, baskets and barrows, orchids in curtained windows. Fields of flowers – tulips “self-plucking” (clever little things….)
Pretty Passau

Drove through Passau Germany towards Scharding. Stopped at tourist info for assistance re phone/numbers/prefixes - finally got onto woman who confirmed website information - parcel WAS returned to shipper yesterday and is back in Australia!! Words do not describe the chagrin we feel, given there has been a month in which to sort out customs issues. Now have to wait for Oz shipper to confirm status, and options. Can it be re-sent to Sweden?? No point in driving back to Raab now, silver lining - suddenly free to begin our trip! Camped beside the Inn River and went for walk through delightful Old Town with its narrow arches, mossy cobblestones, pastel coloured building facades and murals - just beat rain "home".

Had great hot shower (thank you Webasto guys!) Hare in grass, birdsong in long twilight, as skies turned soft blues, pinks and mauves, so peaceful.
