Day 52 - Around Siem Reap - Tues 16 Apr

Day 52 - Around Siem Reap - Tues 16 Apr
Happy Wash your Grandmother Day! It's the last day of holidays and we've decided to wait for the crowds to depart before we fully explore Angkor Wat by daylight tomorrow. Slept in - a real one! GirlRob had scour/seaweed wrap/hot spa by Pol Li (33yrs, threw away husband - "Khmer men drinking, drinking, very la-zeee", her parents bringing up 12 yr old daughter in village near Laos border), very gentle/ relaxing, skin glowing and smooth afterwards. BoyRob on other hand had the 4 hands massage and came away with aches plus bruises on his face. Guess you can’t always believe the marketing!

Took Mr Pethic's tuk tuk (has 2 year loan from bank to buy his moto and tuk-tuk) to Scents of Angkor, a french enterprise, watched women from different villages, mostly widows, working in very good conditions on pleasant grounds with "unique botanical" plantings (most found in North Queensland!), cutting, dying, weaving, stitching rattan baskets, making soaps, creams, oils, herb and liqueur combinations (bought Amok and Khmer curry). We smelt/ tried/ drank, including tea with cardamon.

The girls took the evening entry to Angkor Wat for final day of holiday/ festival - crazy crowds, thousands of people/ families, amazingly well behaved, tents, stages, dancing, singing, karaoke, half a dozen invitations "you dance with me". Cambodia Beer tents (sponsors), first view of Wat illuminated at night was breathtaking, moat much wider than expected, magical moment when hundreds of candles/ lanterns were lit and released by families to float on moat.
