Day 101: Around
Chengdu – Tues 4 Jun
What
a great day at the Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Centre, a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant
pandas and other rare animals. Our photos and videos tell the story
of the main attractions - playful cubs, ponderous adults, inseparable
twins, cheeky red pandas, tranquil swan lake, strutting screeching peacocks,
large clean enclosures with play structures, privacy, greenery, running water –
a beautiful natural habitat with topographic landscaping…
Had
dinner at Pizza Hut with Miles, Marina and Andy – civilisation indeed! Have been
having great success with the iTranslate app in communicating simple
messages eg do you sell spreadable butter? 2 extra pillows please... Many
people then reply on their own device (although clever young ones use our
phone – language no barrier to skilled button pushers!). Internet was finally
organised at our hotel via network cable in room at 8.30pm on this our final
night before checkout - had to stay up till midnight to download all
outstanding items and sending blog and photo updates to Justin in Canada to
publish on our behalf. Guy obviously stayed up doing his "homework"
too, sending info to our co-travellers on the upcoming 10 days of trip, plus
suggestions and photos in zip files. Hair coloured, washing dried, IT chores
accomplished – we certainly will return to Ozzie in morning feeling satisfied
with ourselves.
