Happy Wedding Anniversary Boy&Girl Robs!! What a way to celebrate, on foreign soil living the dream (putting away all thoughts of yesterday's drama of course....)
Rainy morning, cold wet wind. Porridge starter, then boggy getting out of field, a "hub-in" event. Ankle swelling going down, GirlRob didn't need bandage today. Did the shuffle of all additional items underfoot, then on our way. Monuments along road where motorists have been killed, picture on tombstone marker as if it was the cemetery, and bold coloured plastic wreaths. Unsuccessful email and mobile attempts to contact Fuso Austria to book in for repairs (tail light, replace drivers side door lock etc) wheel balance and safety inspection for upcoming Australian vehicle registration - charging satellite phone to ready as next option. Emailed Fuso Australia for contact details - hopefully we’ll locate a service centre in Vienna.
Stopped in Mykolaiv for fuel at red Luk station recommended by Marina's family - what a pleasure to find in one place, water for the truck, and a sit-down indoor toilet with paper. Nova Odesa monument statue of 1944 soldier. Rain clearing but even late sunflowers aren't raising their heads today. Passed Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power station on man-made lake for cooling (don't fish here!) Flash company town with large new double-story houses on well laid out concrete streets. Fields of corn, dull yellow and dry. Bought crusty bread and tomatoes from roadside stalls and stopped for lunch, farmdog waiting patiently for scraps. Drove through Pervomaisk - lawn cutting and hair cutting in same shop!! Rain came back, patch of blue misted over. Will be hard to find campsite in all this agricultural and forested land. Guy emailed to say they camped in a cemetery on this stretch - his words "it was quiet" an understatement!
Pulled into field outside village of Nemryb for camp, wrung and hung washing, and rearranged some locker boxes and contents to take overflow from back box... with chairs in front seat overnight, and washing barrels/ bucket in shower cubicle, it’s a little easier to move inside. Was 9⁰ at 3pm, so maybe 5⁰ tonight. Luckily we have a second helping of tuna casserole to heat!
