Day 15 - Tasik Kenyir through Gua Masang to Cameron Highlands - Sun 10 Mar

Day 15 - Tasik Kenyir through Gua Masang to Cameron Highlands - Sun 10 Mar
Put washing in barrel, left lake and triathlon behind - today a new adventure on road not well known (and gigantic potholes to start). Pocket Earth and Garmin showing only faint lines, no names. JnJ said they got through but it was steep and windy- high bridges over ravines with rivers that must run furiously in wet season. Good investment in roads, bridges, terracing and draining, but no evidence of road maintenance at all! Spiderwebs on grass glistening with early morning moisture. Haze and clouds obscuring mountains ahead. Following shores of lake – green water, so still, beautiful reflections of jungle, dead trees upright and floating trunks.

Through mountain, back into agriculture, plantations and logging. Waved through polis/ militia barriers both ends of road, maybe security for illegal logging? People stare at us as we pass - break into huge grins if we wave and wave back.
Gua Masang, imposing limestone cliffs and caves as drove into town. Pork buns and apples for lunch on side of road whilst awning aired. Huge rainstorm as drove up into Cameron Highlands, washing heaps of soil downstream. AMAZING sight of hundreds of greenhouses on every hill/ space. Veggies, fruit, flowers, herbs, cactus, moss, beehives, strawberry patches - farms of every description. Narrow windy streets with stalls, businesses and shacks up to edge of roads - finally found place to camp through forestry office. Dinner at best restaurant according to Lonely Planet - chapati set entree, combo set curry/veg/meat/rice/pickle/papadum/yogurt and lime Lassi for less than $15!! Walked through night markets strawberries on skewers in chocolate... Never going to lose weight in Asia.

  1. That tree sticking out of the jungle reminds me of the jungles in Ghana we drove through!
