Tues & Wed 10 & 11 May 2016. Brisbane to Stockholm
Huge excitement as day drew near for Wanderoos to depart
for GlobalTrek 2016, the third leg of our adventure, aiming to see the many
parts of Europe not covered in 2014. Huge stress at the same time to leave our
house whilst renovations are still ongoing. Final farewell with GirlRob’s Dad (“I’ll
make sure I’m still alive by the time you come back dear!”) and our Brisbane
children, the youngest grandson Fletcher smiling us goodbye in his "Happy
Camper" shirt.
With high hopes that BoyRob’s shoulder has improved enough for Wanderoos to resume the chores of a camping holiday, we checked in for the first leg of our flight to Stockholm. It was a bonus this year to have taken out an around-the-world ticket for our flights, rather than be on standby and wait nerve-wrackingly up until take-off to know whether we were on that plane or not. In the waiting lounge of Brisbane airport, we bought bonus international roaming data with rest of our Telstra credit due to expire today. We plan to insert the new GlobalGig sim into BoyRob’s phone once we get to Dubai (and because it has gone up so exorbitantly in recent months, use it VERY sparingly). Off into the wild blue yonder!
Our Qantas flights were uneventful, as usual watched too
many movies and ate too much food just to pass the 36 hours of our journey as
best as possible. Changed carriers at London, first time either Wanderoo had touched
down in England. And the weather? "Unseasonably raining" according to
tongue-in-cheek steward!! Stayed foggy and grey during 7 hr transit, so weren’t
tempted to exit customs with all the baggage to ride a hop on/off bus. Disappointingly
couldn't find an eatery offering traditional Brit fare like cod or butties.
A
relief to end journey in Sweden, disembarking into an almost balmy 14°. Checked
in at hotel and walked several blocks to main strip to eat then blissfully
enjoyed hot shower and stretching out on a clean comfortable bed. Quite hot in room
but both too tired to open eyes and hunt for thermostat to adjust.
