Day 103: Bastei to Siedlung Ruhebank, Chermitz - Sat 16 Aug

Day 103: Bastei to Siedlung Ruhebank, Chermitz - Sat 16 Aug
Drove into quaint town of Bad Schandau, saw 1904 art nouveau passenger truss tower elevator, then crossed river to see sandstone cliffs from other side.

Drove along river but were stopped by “vehicle police” who insisted we were on a bicycle path/ locals only car road. No amount of showing on our Pocket Earth map that it was the only road to stellplatz would sway them from an on the spot fine. They perused all our documents, admired our "nice car", then in spite of our protest that we were a motor home like the one they just waved through, gave us 20€ “ticket for next 300metres".

Fortunately the day looked up after that, the cliffs were as good viewing as expected, followed by a pretty drive through forests, along bubbling river. We spotted deer, duck houses on stilts in pond (safety from foxes?), towns with front doors opening onto road, absolutely beautiful gardens, window boxes, decorated windows. Tracking close to Czech Republic borders today, crossing country to get part of the way to Nuremberg.

Ran into a rain shower before we found a caravan park, and as we were idling whilst booking in, also drew a resident’s complaint about our fumes. Then as we backed into our allocated space we accidentally knocked over a small new sapling. The owner sniffed loudly before hauling it off to feed to her goats. That completed a trifecta of mishaps for the day….
